19 of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one championships have been won on hard surfaces
A resurgent Daniil Medvedev claimed his initial trophy for over two years with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the tournament title decider.
The athlete, a former world number one, has had a difficult season, achieving just one match at the major tournaments and experiencing a difficult moment at the American major.
His unpredictability on the professional circuit - and struggles with his serve in specific - led to him dropping out of the world's top 10 and ultimately separating with long-time mentor Cervara.
Currently collaborating with Johansson and his other coach, he has steadily improved in the recent weeks - climaxing in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 win over Frenchman Moutet.
This represents his maiden title after the Italian tournament and maiden on a hardcourt since March of that year.
The win also signifies he has achieved twenty-one championships at 21 different competitions.
"For the first time I am participating in a competition with my two daughters together, so to secure a trophy is particularly special," stated tennis professional Daniil Medvedev.
"This victory is in tribute of my younger daughter Victoria, because the initial championship I won when my first daughter Alisa was delivered was for her."
Medvedev, the past champion, had failed in his last six title deciders, comprising in the German tournament earlier this year.
Medvedev's defensive strategy and recurring reactions on the playing surface had led commentators to doubt if his capacity to play at the top level was concluded.
But the athlete has made changes in the last few weeks, making an effort to approach the net and play positively, reinforced by an improved serve.
The champion fought back from a disadvantage in the opening set against the tricky opponent, winning 4 of the final five points to gain the advantage.
The competitors traded breaks in the second set before the Frenchman, bidding for his initial ATP Tour victory, seized the initiative to push for a final set.
The opponent saved 4 initial opportunities in a competitive third set before Medvedev broke to fifteen to secure the win.
Fittingly, Medvedev earned victory with a rally at the net area, with the Frenchman failing to handle a shot after over two and a half hours.
