One 60-day voyage around the Land Down Under is being halted in the wake of the fatal incident of an elderly woman who was abandoned by the cruise liner on a distant coastal location.

The elderly woman had been trekking on the tropical location with fellow passengers from the vessel, but parted ways from the excursion for a rest. The vessel departed without her and came back several hours later after the crew became aware the lady was missing.

A large-scale rescue mission found her remains the subsequent day.

Authorities are investigating the incident, in coordination with investigators and the official investigator.

Head of the cruise operator stated that guests and crew on the vessel were notified that the continuation of the cruise had been cancelled due to the "tragic passing and earlier technical problems".

Through an announcement, he mentioned that travelers would be issued a full refund, and said the company was working "to coordinate the return journeys of the passengers via private aircraft".
