Nearly twenty-five thousand households in south-east Queensland woke up without power on Monday's dawn after intense storm systems passed over the region, bringing powerful gusts topping 109km/h.

Large Frozen Precipitation and Broad Damage

Homeowners reported large ice chunks reaching sizes of 7 centimeters in certain regions. Meteorological experts announced that various areas across the state had been affected by substantial ice precipitation.

Emergency crews were focused on reestablishing electricity service throughout the affected regions, with dozens of response units activated to address the widespread outages.

Victoria's Climate Difficulties

Meanwhile, nearly 1,000 residents in the southern state also experienced power outages after Melbourne experienced its heaviest rainfall in a year and a half.

Rescue organizations responded to over five hundred calls for help across the area, mainly for building damage but also for fallen timber and inundation.

At one point on Sunday, over 28k energy customers in the state were lacking electricity.

Meteorological Predictions

Moist weather were forecast to persist along much of Queensland's east this week as a low-pressure trough continued to pull in damp air against the coastal areas.

The following day was expected to become the heaviest precipitation period, with continued severe weather risk expected across various areas of both states.

Health Warning

Public health experts alerted that there was an higher risk of weather-related respiratory issues across the northern rural areas, specifically given the ongoing climate situation.

This alert comes after previous incidents where comparable situations led to substantial respiratory problems in the area.
